Adult Treatment

It is never too late to get that healthy, beautiful smile that you have always wanted. In fact, one out of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over the age of 21. Healthy teeth, bones, and gum tissues will respond well to orthodontic treatment at any age. Dr. George and his team are ready to help you begin your new smile.

While the cosmetic benefits of orthodontic treatment can certainly improve an adult's personal appearance and self-esteem, overall health can be improved by treating crooked teeth and a bad bite. Bone loss, gum disease, tooth decay, headaches, and jaw joint pain can all be improved with straighter teeth. Because of the unique nature of adult orthodontics, it is often necessary for Dr. George to work closely with your family dentist and other dental professionals such as a periodontist or oral surgeon to achieve the best result.

Today's orthodontic appliances are smaller, less visible, and more comfortable, so many adults are finding treatment to be more appealing and easier than ever before. The new techniques we use often result in shorter treatment times, less discomfort, and fewer visits. For adults, Dr. George offers metal braces, clear ceramic braces, and Invisalign—an appliance that straightens your teeth without wires and brackets. Clear plastic trays called aligners are used to move your teeth and they are totally invisible so hardly anyone will know that you are straightening your teeth!

The Invisalign appliance uses sophisticated computer graphics to manufacture the aligners that move your teeth. Dr. George designs a prescription to move your teeth in small increments to their final position. These movements are then built into a custom made series of aligners, with each aligner being worn for about two weeks, producing gradual movement of your teeth towards the finished result. It is only necessary to remove the aligners to eat, brush, or floss. Individual treatment times vary, and are usually in a range of 6 to 18 months using between 10 and 30 aligners.
